Making an Impression
It's been a hectic few weeks filled with lots of excitement here at Casa de Yup, and I've been up to my eyeballs in work, work, work. Luckily, a lot of it has been really enjoyable work - prepping for and teaching my first workshop, website/blog design projects for some particularly awesome people, and becoming a one-woman production line for handmade cards. But in the midst of all of the crazy busy exciting times, my blogging habits have been less than stellar. I would say that I promise it won't happen again, but I'll just settle for "it won't happen again for at least a few days." A girl has to keep her goals achievable, right?
One of the fun, in-progress projects that has had my attention lately is preparing a bunch of cards for an upcoming craft show. I've really been enjoying developing the prototypes and then putting them into production ... seriously, there is something that is just so satisfying about a big ol' stack of finished cards. And now that I have a big ol' stack of finished cards, I've been playing around with some ideas for unique packaging. My quest for cute packaging led me to finally try my hand at something I've always marveled at but had never attempted - carving my own rubber stamp.
Armed with a pack of dollar store erasers and a sharp-as-heck craft knife, I jumped in head first. To be completely honest, my form was lacking ... I broke every single rule about how to hold and/or use a knife. If my life was being filmed for some kind of reality show, the editors would have added a large, flashing "Do Not Attempt" message across the screen. And yet, somewhat miraculously, I managed to keep all of my fingers AND churn out a pretty darn cute stamp. I would have been happy with simply keeping the blood loss at a minimum, so the fact that an adorable stamp came out of the process was the icing on the cake.
