Instant Craftification : DIY Swashed & Snipped Washi Tape
Happy day six of my Week o' Washi! Today is extra special, because I will be posting two tape projects (on account of my being sucked into a time warp a couple of days back). The first tape of the day has a watercolor-esque feel, but is made with a big, bold swash of diluted acrylic paint. Add a creative edge using a pair of decorative scissors, and you've got yourself a one-of-a-kind washi tape that takes just minutes to make!
DIY Swashed & Snipped Washi Tape
Supplies
- Masking tape
- Waxed paper
- Acrylic paint
- Foam brush
- Decorative scissors
- Scissors
Cut a piece of waxed paper that is approximately 2" longer than you want your washi tape strips to be. Place the curled side of the waxed paper down onto a flat surface to help prevent curling. Cut a strip of masking tape from the roll, and carefully stick it to the waxed paper so there is a gap on all sides. Repeat until your waxed paper is full, leaving only a moderate gap between strips. Dilute some acrylic paint slightly with water, and then use a foam brush to apply a layer of paint to the tips of two strips of tape simultaneously (see the picture below if that sounds confusing). Allow the tape to dry thoroughly, then cut along the painted edge with a pair of decorative scissors. Transfer the tapes to a fresh piece of waxed paper to store.
Ready for more washi love? Come on back this evening for another super easy DIY washi tape! In the meantime, don't forget to check out my Faux Watercolor Washi Tape.
