Instant Craftification : DIY Glittered Washi Tape
Ok, so the craziest thing happened yesterday. I got stuck in some sort of weird time warp wormhole thing, and missed day five of my Week o' Washi entirely. Or, at least, that is the story I'm going to go with to make it seem like I didn't miss yet another day. To make up for this unexplained anomaly of time and space, I'm posting two DIY tape projects tomorrow (and there's no chance for a time warp ... they're already done and photographed!). Now that we've gotten that all straightened out, it's time to get sparkly!
DIY Glittered Washi Tape
Supplies
- Masking tape
- Waxed paper
- Matte Mod Podge
- Foam brush
- Glitter (I used glass glitter, but whatever you have handy is just fine)
- Scissors
Cut a piece of waxed paper that is approximately 2" longer than you want your washi tape strips to be. Place the curled side of the waxed paper down onto a flat surface to help prevent curling. Cut a strip of masking tape from the roll, and carefully stick it to the waxed paper so there is a gap on all sides. Repeat until your waxed paper is full, leaving only a moderate gap between strips. Apply a medium layer of Mod Podge to the tape with a foam brush. Working quickly so that the Mod Podge doesn't dry, sprinkle glitter over the strips until they are covered entirely. Shake off any excess glitter and allow to dry thoroughly. Transfer the strips to a fresh sheet of waxed paper to store. I'm not traditionally a glitter kind of girl, but I have to say that I really love this tape ... it's fun and sparkly without being tacky. Just how I like to think of myself.
To make the cute little sample postcard, I simply used a piece of my glittery tape to stick a crocheted heart (a leftover from my Easy Peasy DIY Valentine Cards) to a piece of kraft cardstock. I added a small piece of masking tape to the bottom of the card, and stamped the word "love" onto it using a type-inspired stamp set and a light coat of black ink.
Ready for more washi love? Come on back tomorrow for another super easy DIY washi tape! In the meantime, don't forget to check out my Faux Watercolor Washi Tape.
