Instant Craftification : DIY Dazzling Dots Washi Tape
Happy day six (again)! My Week o' Washi is nearly over, but I still have a couple more DIY washi tape projects to share. I wish that I could take credit for this particular tape, but sadly I can't, because it was all L's idea. It was actually quite cute ... he not only recommended that I use Glue Dots to create the effect used for this tape, but even knew that they were called Glue Dots! I know ... I was amazed myself. He's pretty awesome. :-) And speaking of awesome things, it's time to get down to some Instant Craftification!
DIY Dazzling Dots Washi Tape
Supplies
- Masking tape
- Waxed paper
- Acrylic paint
- Foam brush
- Glue Dots (I used two sizes - mini and regular)
- Glitter
- Scissors
Cut a piece of waxed paper that is approximately 2" longer than you want your washi tape strips to be. Place the curled side of the waxed paper down onto a flat surface to help prevent curling. Cut a strip of masking tape from the roll, and carefully stick it to the waxed paper so there is a gap on all sides. Repeat until your waxed paper is full, leaving only a moderate gap between strips. Dilute some acrylic paint slightly with water, and then use a foam brush to apply a layer of paint to each of the strips. I used a combination of three colors (yellow, blue, and aqua) to create a more mottled, organic feel, but you can use whichever color (or colors) inspire you. Allow the tape to dry thoroughly. Apply Glue Dots to the strips of tape, then sprinkle glitter over each of the dots. Shake off any excess glitter, then transfer the tapes to a fresh piece of waxed paper to store.
Ready for more washi love? Come on back tomorrow for the final day of my Week 'o Washi (and for my very favorite tape, hands down)! In the meantime, don't forget to check out my Faux Watercolor Washi Tape.
