Instant Craftification : DIY Gilded Washi Tape
So, I've been a bit of an inattentive blogger. That's the bad news. The good news is that I'm back, and I come bearing goodies! Even though I wasn't able to spend any time posting last week, I was able to sneak in a few minutes of crafting here and there. The result? Not one, not two, but SEVEN new DIY washi tapes! Welcome to the first day of my Week o' Washi!
DIY Gilded Washi Tape
Supplies
- Masking tape
- Waxed paper
- Gold acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
Cut a piece of waxed paper that is approximately 2" longer than you want your washi tape strips to be. Place the curled side of the waxed paper down onto a flat surface to help prevent curling (and I'm not talking about that weird sport with the brooms that people play during the Winter Olympics). Cut a strip of masking tape from the roll, and carefully stick it to the waxed paper so there is a gap on all sides. Repeat until your waxed paper is full, leaving only a very narrow gap between strips. Apply an even coat of gold acrylic paint over all of the strips. Allow to dry thoroughly. Depending on the paint you use, you may need to do more than one coat in order to get a nice, opaque finish. Transfer the strips of tape to a clean piece of waxed paper to store.
To create the sample above, I stamped a cute heart from the Flourishing stamp sheet by the very awesome Pam Garrison in black onto a piece of patterned paper. I added a small swash of color using a shimmery watercolor paint and then stuck it onto a quarter-sheet of kraft cardstock using two strips of the DIY gilded washi tape. Doesn't it add just the perfect amount of glimmer?
Ready for more washi love? Come on back tomorrow for another super easy DIY washi tape! In the meantime, don't forget to check out my Faux Watercolor Washi Tape.
