Instant Craftification : Dainty Doily Card
I suppose it was bound to happen eventually. Despite my best efforts, I managed to miss a birthday - specifically L's sister-in-law's birthday. It came and went with no handmade card in sight, and I knew I had to make something cute (and fast!) to make up for it. She's really classy, so I wanted her card to be just as feminine and sophisticated as she is ... which meant that I had the perfect excuse to break open my brand new package of paper doilies. Oh, how I love doilies.
Dainty Doily Card
Supplies
- Kraft cardstock or blank pre-folded card
- Paper doily
- Patterned paper
- Button
- Embroidery floss
- Sentiment rub-on
- Glue
- Pencil
- Scissors
Carefully cut the center out of the paper doily, following the pattern of the doily itself. Using the doily as a template, lightly trace the outline of the center opening onto the back of a piece of patterned paper. Cut the patterned paper approximately 1/4" larger than the outline, and glue the paper to the backside of the doily so that it shows through the opening. Once the doily is dry, place the card on top of the doily (both facing down) and lightly trace the outline of the card. Depending on your personal preference, you can cover more or less of the front of the card with the doily by adjusting the placement before tracing. Cut the doily along the pencil lines and glue onto the face of the card. I applied a few thin beads of glue along the thicker sections of the doily to make sure it was secure. Thread two strands of embroidery floss through a button and tie it into a bow. Glue the button onto the center of the patterned paper, then apply the rub-on sentiment to the bottom right corner of the card. Darling, isn't it?
